'The Masked Singer' recap: Who was unmasked this week? – USA TODAY

Spoiler alert! This story contains details from “The Masked Singer” Season 1, Episode 6, including the identity of the eliminated celebrity.
Six celebrities unmasked, and six left to obsess over.
Wednesday’s episode of Fox hit “The Masked Singer” revealed another celebrity this week as four of the remaining competitors – Peacock, Monster, Bee and Raven – put on their best performances.
As the episode kicks off, Ken Jeong is a little too cocky after correctly guessing Tori Spelling last week, walking in with a crown and the trophy that should go to the champion masked singer. But quickly the singers took the spotlight back, with all four rocking the Black-Eyed Peas song “I Gotta Feeling” to kick things off.
First to sing solo is the Bee, who smashes Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball,” naturally. Thicke seems pretty sure that Bee is Gladys Knight, and seems to recognize even the way she holds the microphone. All the contestants were asked to bring a revealing item as a clue, and Bee brought bakeware, saying it’s her second favorite thing to do. Jenny McCarthy notes that Patti LaBelle is famous for her pie.

Peacock is second to perform. He offers a soulful remixed rendition of John Legend’s “All of Me” that has the judges saying “Donny Osmond.” Nicole Scherzinger is convinced he’s a magician. Robin Thicke suggests Neil Patrick Harris, because Peacock showed a rainbow flag during his introductory video. When he unveils his item, it’s a wavy brown wig. Peacock says because of the wig he was “thrown in jail.” The wig confuses the judges but the big guesses are Osmond, Michael Bolton and Wayne Brady.
Next up is the Raven, who sings Sara Bareilles’ “Brave” and nails the big high note, delighting the judges. Her revealing item? A shiny gold Emmy Award, which doubles as a humblebrag. She says she places the Emmy where “the flock can admire it.” Thicke suggests Ricki Lake, and Jeong mentions Star Jones. No matter what, they’re sticking with talk-show hosts.
The last singer of the night is Monster, who’s wearing a slick leather jacket emblazoned with “American Monster” over his usual “Monsters, Inc”-style get-up to sing The Guess Who’s “American Woman.” He even manages some hip-swaying dance moves, giant costume and all. His clue is a headset that he makes his “best calls” on, leading the judges to guess he’s a sportscaster, after they had become convinced he was a professional singer.
When the audience and judges vote, the Raven is eliminated. The judges make their final guesses: Jeong goes with Sheryl Underwood from “The Talk”; Scherzinger suggests Meghan McCain from “The View”; Thicke sticks with Lake; and McCarthy suggests Raven-Symone. When the mask comes off it’s … Emmy-winning former talk show-host and original “Hairspray” actress Ricki Lake!
So why did Lake do “Masked Singer”?
“I love the anonymity,” Lake says. “For me to not tell my family what I’m doing, it’s been a ball. … I went through the loss of my husband last year, and this was an opportunity for me to share my journey through this loss.”
Lake joins unmasked singers actress Tori Spelling (Unicorn); comedian Margaret Cho (Poodle); former NFL quarterback and Fox Sports commentator Terry Bradshaw (Deer); comedian Tommy Chong (Pineapple); and Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Antonio Brown (Hippo).
