Prince Harry’s image has ‘completely tanked’ after quitting Royal Family, says expert – The Mirror

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, announced they were stepping back from senior roles in the Royal Family in 2020, and subsequently left the UK to relocate in California
Prince Harry’s image has “completely tanked” following he and wife Meghan’s controversial exit from the Royal Family.
Back in 2020, the 39-year-old announced he was fed up with the lack of privacy, and they would be taking a step back from senior roles within the monarchy. They subsequently left the UK, and relocated in California, where they’ve since raised their family – son Archie, four, and daughter Lilibet, two – while trying to carve out a career in Hollywood.
Since stepping down as royals, Harry and Meghan have signed multi-million dollar deals with Netflix and Spotify, and the prince was applauded for his gritty and emotional six-part docuseries Heart of Invictus, which focused on the athletes who took part in the event. However, the mum-of-two has faced criticism after her Spotify podcast series, Archetypes, was a huge flop, and the couple then parted ways with the audio streaming giant.

Harry was even sidelined at his beloved grandmother’s funeral last year, and writer and broadcaster Esther Krakue believes the prince’s public image has “completely tanked” since leaving the monarchy. She spoke to Sky News Australia about her perception of the Duke of Sussex’s reputation after quitting the establishment in a controversial move three years ago, and said he will never recover from it.
Esther stated that the couple, who wed in a star-studded ceremony in 2018, are “so adamant that they want to curate their own public image”, but have fallen foul of their own desire to be celebrities. “And unfortunately, the more they seem to do that, the more they actually fail. Many people don’t understand but actually the Royal Family and their coverage of Prince Harry over the years … they really actually saved his public image,” she explained, adding that since he’s been “completely in charge of his image, alongside his wife Meghan Markle, it’s completely tanked.”
She called the royals “a blessing more than a curse”, and said now Harry no longer has “the protection of people you may not always agree with”, he’s suffering with a negative public image. Her comments come as Spotify boss Daniel Ek revealed the real reason the couple’s $21.7 million (£18 million) partnership ended by “mutual agreement” in June this year. Suggesting that Meghan’s Archetypes podcast, which boasted guests including Serena Williams, Mariah Carey, Paris Hilton, Mindy Kaling and Andy Cohen, failed to make listeners happy, he told the BBC: “We thought new innovation was needed to happen here.”
“We thought we could come in and offer a great experience that both makes consumers very happy and allows new creators new avenues,” he explained. “And the truth of the matter is some of it has worked, some of it hasn't. We're learning from those and we are moving on, and we wish all of the ones we didn't renew with the best of success they can have going forward.”
